1. GENERAL
1.1 - What is FTD?
FTD, or Fill Threads Database, is a softwarepackage that was created October 2001. The goal of FTD is to simplify the communiciation between users in an orderly fashion. Each day around 400.000 people use FTD. FTD is run by a team of 16 volunteers and turned from a hobby project into a company early March 2006.
1.2 - What people use FTD?
The target audience consists of mostly Dutch internet and usenet enthousiasts, from all walks of life. Young, old, men and women -- they all use FTD on a daily basis.
1.3 - What is the Prepaid Advertising Program (PAP) ?
The Prepaid Advertising Program is an easy, transparant and no-nonsense system which allowes you to advertise on FTD. You can administer your own campaigns whilst keeping a sharp eye on the costs.
1.4 - Why would I choose to use Prepaid Advertising Program (PAP) ?
We think that PAP is an ideal way to advertise on FTD in a transparant, cost-efficient way. FTD is a grownup community with over 400.000 active users which are all eager to be introduced by your products or website, especially when they are related to Usenet. Reasons why you should consider the PAP:

- no hidden costs, complete control over your budget
- administer your own campaigns through a few simple clicks, without any hassles
- low costs per impression/view compared to other advertisement managers
- campaigns never expire due to time constraints
- transparant, reliable and 24/7 accessible

2. CAMPAIGNS
2.1 - Who gets to see my campaign ?
Everyone who uses our FTD software (except those that participate in the "FTD Friends" program). Right now that's about 400.000 unique users and grows about 1000 users every day.
2.2 - Where do my campaigns show up?
Advertisements will be shown at the bottom of the FTD client and will be visible to users at all times.
2.3 - Are my campaigns context sensitive?
No, not at this moment. There are plans to realise this in the nearby future.
2.4 - How do you check for fraud and the uniqueness of views/clicks?
A controlelayer keeps track of underlying statistics. Each campaign can be indentified by an unique code which gets validated every time it gets viewed or clicked upon. Impressions/clicks generated by the same client within a certain timespan are ignored.
2.5 - How many times does someone view my ad?
Our system makes sure a single person never gets to see the same ad twice in a row. How many times your ad is shown depends on several factors, including the amount of concurrent campaigns in the ad cycle.
2.6 - Can I give a higher priority to my campaigns so they are viewed more often?
Yes, you can run serveral campaigns with the same ad so it gets viewed more often than any other ad in the cycle.
2.7 - How do you prevent ads from other advertisers to 'push' out my own ads?
If there are (temporarily) a lot of ads running in the cycle your campaign will generate less impressions and probably less clicks. However, since there is no time limit for your campaign, it will increase the time your campaign remains active.
For 50 euro you get 918 PAP punten (see calculator). This can be used in a combination of

- a maximum of 918 unique clickthroughs
- a maxium of 918.000 of unique impressions

If your campaign generates 50.000 unique impressions (=50 pt) and 100 clicks (=100 pt) each day, your campaign will be active for more than 6 days (918/150).

3. UPLOADING A BANNER
3.1 - Which formats may I use ?
You may upload your own banners in the formats of (animated) .gif, .jpg or .png format. Current size restrictions are 468 x 60 pixels, with a filesize less than 100 kilobytes.
3.2 - Are my banners restricted in content ?
Yes. Banners may not show (or link to) content that is illegal under Dutch law. Also, pornographic or otherwise sexual explicit banners will be rejected. This also applies to content which can be seen as offensive by others, in a broad sense.
3.3 - My banner does not meet the size requirements. Can you help?
No, please upload a banner which does meet the requirements. There are several free software applications available which can help you resize your banner.
3.4 - Can I use interactive (flash) banners?
No, currently NO flash banners are allowed, just static ones.
3.5 - Are animated banners (gif) allowed?
Yes, if they meet the filesize restrictions.
3.6 - Can you help me create a banner?
3.7 - Can I use more than one weblink with a campaign ?
No, only one link per campaign. If you need more links, you could always create more campaigns.
3.8 - Can I track visitors who visit my site?
You can put an identifyer in your URL to let tracking software know a visitor used a PAP link to visit your site.
4. ADMINISTRATION
4.1 - Can you administer my campaigns for me?
The online tools make it easy to control each and every aspect of your campaign. However, if you need any assistance, or if you would like us to run your campaigns, please let us know.
4.2 - Can I pause my campaign at any time?
Yes, you can. The campaign will be taken out of roulation immediately.
4.3 - Can I change the banner of a running campaign?
Yes, if you pause it first. If you upload a new banner, there will be some delay in restarting the campaign, as the banner goes through moderation first.
4.4 - Can I cancel a campaign ?
Yes, if you cancel a campaign all unused points are transferred back to your main pool.
4.5 - Can I sell unused PAP points back to you?
No, you can't. However, you can use your points to start a new campaign.
4.6 - Can I start a campaign using only click- or impressionpoints?
Yes, if you have points available in your global budget, these will be used first.
4.7 - When does a campaign stop?
If you run out of impression or clickpoints (and there is no global budget available).
Every time an unique user views your banner, that's an impression. Impressions of the same banner within an hour, count as one.
Every time an unique user clicks on your banner and gets referred to your website, that's a click. Clicks on the same banner within an hour, count as one.
4.10 - Why do I need to assign both impression and clickpoints to my campaign?
Your campaign needs impressionpoints to be viewable and clickpoints to refer users to your site. A valid campaign requires both. If you assign points to the global budget of a campaign, impression and clickpoints will be extracted from this budget first.
4.11 - I have a specific question about my campaign, who can I contact?
You can get in contact with the FTD PAP team.
With limits you can throttle the frequency your banner gets served. You can set a limit for impression and clickpoints seperately. Each hour the usage towards this limit is reset. This can help you get a better spread over the day. An example;

Suppose you set an impression limit of 5000. This means that on an average your banner will not be viewed by more than 5000 unique users, every hour.

Global budgets allow you to set a single budget for your campaign, which is used to fund impression and clickpoints from automatically. This comes in handy if you don't want to micromanage your campaigns.
